Desert Legal Aid Consultations

Through volunteers and staff, the center provides FREE and low-cost civil legal services, including counseling, individual representation, community education, and strategic litigation and advocacy to challenge societal injustices for the poor, disabled and low-income residents of the Coachella Valley. Estate Planning & Elder Law Counseling

Eric Rudolph will provide one-one-one counseling for Mizell members on estate planning matters, including living trusts, basic wills, powers of attorney, advance healthcare directives, conservatorships, asset protection and advance estate planning. Eric will also offer counseling on other areas of the law that are important to Mizell members, including elder abuse, health care, social security, retirement benefits, reverse mortgages, VA benefits, nursing homes, landlord-tenant matters, debt collections matters and avoiding consumer fraud.

Eric will meet individually with Mizell members, and their spouses and partners, on the 1st Tuesday of every month for up to 30 minutes to help them solve their legal problems. Eric looks forward to working closely with Mizell members so they better understand their legal rights and how to protect them. Financial Counseling

Medical Insurance & Mental Health Counseling

Medicare Health Insurance Counseling – HICAP

Jay Lippmann, an experienced volunteer counselor, will answer your Medicare related questions and assist you with the application process. FREE service offered by HICAP. Look for the scheduled program on Fridays each week by clicking here.

Senior Advocates of the Desert

Senior Advocates of the Desert was founded so that low-income seniors can make one phone call and be provided the information, assistance, and advocacy they need to navigate through the government benefits application process. We meet personally one-on-one with our clients and advocate on their behalf to ensure they receive the benefits to which they are entitled. We collaborate with many other agencies in the valley to extend our impact in the senior community. Look for the scheduled program on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week by clicking here.

Issues addressed include: Supplemental Security Income (SSI) – Medicare – In Home Supportive Services (IHSS) – Veterans Benefits – Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) – Social Security Retirement Benefits – Cal-Fresh – LIHEAP – NOT other legal issues or housing.

Tuesdays, 9:30am-1:00pm and Thursdays, 10:00am – 1:00pm; FREE to members

Assessments are 45 minutes. Cal-Fresh/LIHEAP appointments (Thursdays only) are one hour

Mental Health Counseling

This program is private, confidential and designed for crises or short term intervention on how ordinary or extraordinary issues affect you and your relationship to people and the world around you. Depression needn’t be part of life. Get reconnected to people and interests.

If you’re 60 years old or older, and are anxious, depressed, or isolated, you can see our counseling staff at NO COST and without using insurance. No physician referral required.
