Health Insurance Counseling – HICAP/Medicare
Experienced volunteer counselors will answer your insurance-related questions and assist you with the application process. Free service is offered by HICAP Counselors on Tuesdays from 12:30-3:00pm by appointment only. Please call Mizell at (760) 323-5689 to schedule your appointment; drop-ins welcome.
Blood pressure screenings are conducted by RNs from Eisenhower Medical Center: on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at 10:00am-12:00pm.
Hearing and Hearing Aid Clinic – Connect Hearing
Connect Hearing will provide by appointment basic services free to our members. Among the services offered free are:
- Hearing Aid Cleaning
- Checking your hearing aid to make sure it’s working properly
- Free basic hearing aid adjustments
- Free basic hearing screening and testing

Live Healthy! Eisenhower Medical Center Lectures & Activities On the 2nd Wednesday of the month, medical staff delivers a lecture on a topic of interest to seniors. The April topic is: “Ask the Doctor! Women’s Health Education”, presented by Andrea Randall-Shih, MD, Board Certified Gynecologist. Come prepared with questions regarding hormones, gynecology, mammograms, urinary incontinence and other women’s health issues. Wednesday, April 13, 2016: 1:00pm – 2:00pm; free to Mizell members
Cal Fresh Benefits Check-Up
Let this FREE Service Find Out if You Qualify for Assistance The CalFresh Program offers nutrition assistance to eligible, low-income individuals and families and provides economic benefits to communities. CalFresh is the largest program in the domestic hunger safety net. This Federally based program works with State agencies, nutrition educators, and neighborhood and faith-based organizations to ensure that those eligible for nutrition assistance can make informed decisions about applying for the program and can access benefits. Senior Advocates of the Desert is pleased to offer this Benefits Check-up. It’s free, it’s easy, and you may receive help in buying groceries. Senior Advocates of the Desert
Senior Advocates of the Desert was founded so that low-income seniors can make one phone call and be provided the information, assistance, and advocacy they need to navigate through the government benefits application process. These days, we meet personally one-on-one with our clients and advocate on their behalf to ensure they receive the benefits to which they are entitled. We collaborate with many other agencies in the valley to extend our impact in the senior community.
