Adult Bereavement Support Group

Family Hospice Care will offer this free weekly support group to all adults who have experienced the death of a loved one.  The support group is conducted in a non-religious, safe, and caring environment by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and Rev. Dr. Michael Norrie, D.P.C., Bereavement Coordinator / Spiritual Counselor. For more information and to pre-register, call (760)674-3344

Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group

Support group for those who are assisting in the care of loved ones.  Hear explanations from the point of view of those receiving care.  Facilitator: Stephen Geist from Alzheimer’s Association

Senior Advocates of the Desert

Senior Advocates of the Desert was founded so that low-income seniors can make one phone call and be provided the information, assistance, and advocacy they need to navigate through the government benefits application process.

We meet personally one-on-one with our clients and advocate on their behalf to ensure they receive the benefits to which they are entitled.

We collaborate with many other agencies in the valley to extend our impact in the senior community.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) • Medicare • In Home Supportive Services (IHSS) •
Veterans Benefits • Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)
• Social Security Retirement Benefits • Cal-Fresh • LIHEAP

Assessments last 30 minutes. Cal-Fresh appointments (Thursdays only) last 1 hour.

Widows Or Widowers Social Group (WOW)

Social group and non-profit organization open to all Widows & Widowers. Widows or Widowers Club offers you a chance to socialize with others in similar situations. You can make new friends, get involved in new activities. Each week Mizell Senior Center presents an interesting speaker or lecture.

Visitors are welcome.  Come out  & join the fun!

Mondays:  Ongoing
10:00am – 11:00am in the Noia Auditorium
Donation : $20 per year

Your donation covers the costs of mailing monthly newsletter, calendar of speakers, gourmet dine-outs, two happy hours a month, a list of available seasonal group events, ballroom dances, travel groups, live theatre events, mixers, etc.

JFS & Mizell Senior Center Host…“Let’s Do Lunch”

For our homebound seniors…please join us for an afternoon “out” engaging in games, art creation, workshops, beautifying, exercise, live entertainment & more! You will meet and socialize with other older adults, and you will learn new skills, enjoy entertainment, share lunch with other like-minded seniors and most importantly take a break from your daily routine. Studies show that by getting out and socializing you can improve your health while diminishing the effects of psychological and physical diseases and disorders. This “FREE” program will be held at the Mizell Senior Center and feature a special presentation by Oasis Community Services.
