POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Executive Director, Mizell Center

Palm Springs, CA

The Mission:

To foster a vibrant quality of life and support the independence of Coachella Valley residents as they age.

About the Organization:

Mizell Center is a non-denominational, non-profit organization that has been serving the senior community in the Palm Springs area for 50 years.  In that time, it has become an acknowledged leader in active aging, a welcoming space offering community and kinship for seniors from diverse backgrounds and life experiences and a lifeline for vulnerable and often isolated seniors in the community.

Our programs and services are curated for seniors on a broad socio-economic spectrum, with an emphasis on the needs of low-income seniors.  Members and guests bring vibrancy to more than 50 weekly Center-based no cost or low-cost activities designed to support independence, promote lifelong learning and sustain a healthy and engaged lifestyle.

Our Meals on Wheels program, the largest in the Coachella Valley, prepares and delivers up to 800 nutritious meals every weekday to predominately low-income seniors on routes that stretch from Whitewater all the way to the Salton Sea.  Deliveries are made to homebound seniors and to Valley-based seniors centers in support of their communal lunch programs.  Our professional drivers are certified in CPR and also receive training to recognize health and social issues to allow for early intervention.

The Position:

The Mizell Center is excited to announce an opening for the position of Executive Director, a pivotal role in advancing our mission to enhance the lives of seniors in our community. We are seeking a dynamic and innovative leader who will provide strategic vision and operational guidance to ensure the Center’s continued growth and sustainability.

As the Executive Director, you will oversee daily operations and financial management while driving the development of impactful programs and services. Building strong relationships with stakeholders—including government agencies, donors, and community partners—will be essential as you advocate for the needs of seniors and represent the Center in various public forums.

You will lead a passionate team, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture that encourages collaboration and creativity. Your leadership will be instrumental in developing and implementing strategic plans that align with our mission and vision.

Ideal candidates will have proven leadership experience in non-profit management, particularly within the senior services sector, along with strong financial acumen and fundraising expertise. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are crucial, as is a genuine passion for community service and advocacy for seniors.

Join us in making a meaningful impact and shaping a brighter future for our community!

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a field relevant to the organization
  • 10+ years of experience working in a nonprofit senior leadership position
  • Previous experience working closely with a nonprofit Board of Directors
  • Previous experience working in social service environments
  • Excellent understanding of finance related performance standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Must think strategically and possess highly developed analytical skills

Compensation: $110,000 – $135,000

  • 80% paid medical benefits (health, vision & dental)
  • 403b retirement plan
  • Paid time off, including sick leave, vacation & holidays
