Mizell Senior Center has been serving the greater Palm Springs area for nearly 40 years, and is the community focal point on healthy and active aging. This is a place where Active Seniors come together for service and activity which enhances dignity, supports independence, and encourages involvement in and with the community. Programs support individuals in all phases of the aging process and promote healthy aging, wellness, and community participation. The mission of the Mizell Senior Center is to enhance the lives and welfare of adults who live in or visit our community. Programs and services at Mizell Senior Center are designed to meet the needs of low income seniors and to provide opportunities to combat loneliness, isolation, and maintain active productive lives. Loneliness, isolation, and depression know no economic boundaries. We have over 50,000 visits each year from individuals taking part in our activities and programs.
Mizell Senior Center publishes a Weekly e-Newsletter that is distributed to our members and supporters. The Newsletter contains a wealth of information about upcoming programs and activities at Mizell along with our weekly nutrition program menu. All of our Business Partners are listed in the Newsletter along with links to their websites so you can easily find out information on products and services that are important to you. Hot lunches are served daily. We have a new lunch program. If you are over 60 years old and would like to participate, ask to complete the Enrollment Form. We are requesting a $3.00 donation to help maintain the high quality of our Meals. If you are under age 60 or do not wish to participate in the program, the meal cost is $4.00. Get Balanced Classes – Now Twice Weekly at Mizell
Help Prevent a Devastating Fall
Do you find it difficult to stand for a long period of time? Is your balance less than it used to be? Do you tire easily by performing a simple task? Then join us for our one hour intensive balance and coordination class taught by Dr. Marc Eisman, D.C. and Stephen Matthews, D.C. This class uses specialized equipment and methods based on evidence based programs that are globally recognized. Get Balanced Classes now meet Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00AM to 10:00AM. the Get Balanced Classes are a part of our comprehensive exercise and our overall Fall Prevention programming. The cost for each class is only $3.00 for members and $6.00 for non-members. Be prepared to have fun, be challenged and Get Balanced. A devastating fall could rob you of your retirement years and your independence. Our fall prevention programs are partially funded by a generous grant from the Auen Foundation. Learn How to Prevent a Devastating Fall
Be sure to sign-up for this class, starting on Wednesday, September 10. If you are afraid of falling and feel you are restricted in your activities and “stuck at home”, this class is for you. Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels. The program emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls. You will learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce your fall risk at home and increase strength and balance. You should attend if your fear of falling restricts your activities, if you have previously fallen and are interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength. The classes will take place on Wednesday’s and Friday’s September 10 through October 3 from 8:00AM to 10:00AM. A devastating fall could change your life forever. A Matter of Balance will help you learn to overcome your fear of falling and provide you with practical ways to keep active and involved. This important class is supported in part by a generous grant from the Auen Foundation. Seniors On Stage – Improv Theater Returns
Beginning September 18
Kate Ullman has returned with her popular Improv Theater Workshop on Thursdays from 2:30PM to 4:00PM beginning on September 18. Described as an “Experience in Spontaneous Joy”, you can expect the unexpected in this workshop. Experience storytelling and creative spontaneity and play interactive Improv games and exercises, all in a safe and friendly environment. Come laugh and join in the fun.
