“As you grow older you discover you have two hands. One for helping yourself, the other for helping others”
– Audrey Hepburn
We can’t do what we do for our community without our volunteers. There are a variety of volunteer positions to suit your interest and commitment level.
Front Desk/Reception – An on-going weekly commitment where computer knowledge required. The front desk volunteers answer questions from members and the public on the phone and in-person. They direct calls to the proper staff member and help prepare mailings. Shifts are Monday through Friday – 8:00 am to 12:30 pm and 12:30 to 5:00 pm.
Bingo – Multiple and varied ways to help on Mondays. From selling Bingo cards to helping with the delivery of prizes, volunteering for Bingo is great fun that helps raise funds for Mizell.
Café 480 – Dining Room – Monday through Friday our lunch program serves hundreds of guests in the Desert Oasis Healthcare Room. Volunteers work from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm serving guests, bussing tables or even playing the piano.
Café 480 – Kitchen – Select volunteers with food service background may be offered the opportunity to help in the kitchen. Our professional staff handles most of the work, but some meals require more help than others. As our valley-wide
Meals on Wheels program food is also made in our kitchen, our volunteers are helping beyond the walls of Mizell.
Aunt Betty’s Attic – Our thrift store is a treasure trove of quality clothing, books and home goods. Our volunteers work as sales clerks for either a morning or afternoon shift on a regularly scheduled basis.
Farmer’s Market – Each Thursday morning we host a free Farmer’s Market for those 60 or better. During the season we often have 350+ people go through the line. Our volunteers help replenish the tables with crates of fresh produce, distribute to guests so there will be enough for all and have guests sign in for our official count each week.
Music and Activities Hosts – Our outgoing volunteers help collect entrance fees to our live music and activities. Depending upon the event, activity and expertise of the volunteer, they may help members with the rules of a particular game, recall the name of the original performer or simply engage the guests.
Special Events – Our volunteers are a key part of our fundraising events. Whether helping to set up a party outside of the Mizell Center, serving cocktails to guests, working a check-in booth, preparing large mailings, creating or installing room décor and more there are plenty of opportunities to help.
Specialized Volunteer Activities – Volunteers who have retired from marketing, fundraising, IT, or other specific skills applicable to non-profit development or improving/teaching technology.
